Glossary
Plain-language definitions for block building, arbitrage, MEV, relay bids, and transaction inclusion.
2 min readArbitrage#
A trade or cycle of trades that uses a price difference between markets to produce a surplus. In this builder, predicted surplus must survive funding costs, exact execution, gas, and final-block placement.
Backrun#
A transaction placed after a target transaction to act on the state it leaves behind. An ethical user backrun does not move ahead of that user or sandwich their trade.
Ordinary baseline#
The regular block built for the same slot without the proposed MEV capture. It supplies the validator value against which added earnings are compared.
Builder#
A service that assembles and verifies an execution block and offers a payment for a validator to propose it.
Canonical inclusion#
A transaction or payload appearing in the current chain. Check block identity and transaction receipts; an accepted request or simulated candidate is not canonical inclusion.
Flash funding#
Capital borrowed and repaid within one transaction. The route needs a compatible lender and sufficient liquidity, and repayment principal is not counted as profit.
MEV#
Value obtainable through the composition and ordering of a block. BlockFerret pursues supported ethical captures and shares the verified net increment after costs.
Portfolio#
A block candidate containing several opportunities. They must work together at their actual execution positions, preserve required public outcomes, and pass complete-block accounting.
Priority fee#
The transaction’s effective tip above the network base fee. It contributes to the validator’s ordinary reward. The base fee is burned.
Proposer#
The validator assigned to propose a block for a particular slot.
Relay#
The intermediary that receives builder bids and provides a selected block to a connected validator. BlockFerret uses the Vouch relay.
Slot#
A scheduled opportunity for a validator to propose a block. A proposer duty and execution block number are different identifiers.
Learned route watchlist#
A bounded collection of swap topologies learned from canonical transactions. Watch membership is discovery guidance, not permission to execute without fresh verification.
